ARTIST INFO
MAC MALL
Jamal Rocker (born June 14, 1975), better known by his stage name Mac Mall, is an American rapper from Vallejo, California who became known during the 1990s as one of the artists responsible for making the Bay Area a respected hip-hop location. Mac Mall is the cousin of E-40 and B-Legit. Mac Mall was longtime friends with Mac Dre, who was his mentor during his early career.
Mac Mall released his debut album Illegal Business? in 1993 at the age of sixteen. The album sold over 200,000 copies independently, a major feat for an independent artist and label. He met Tupac Shakur shortly after the album’s release, who praised the album and later directed a music video for the single “Ghetto Theme”. In 1996, Mac Mall signed a record deal with Relativity Records, which released his second and most commercially successful album, Untouchable.
In 1999, he started his label Sesed Out Records to release his third studio album Illegal Business? 2000. It was followed by the albums Immaculate and Mackin’ Speaks Louder Than Words over the next two years, before taking a hiatus from solo albums and instead working on collaborative albums with JT the Bigga Figga and Mac Dre. Mac Dre was murdered before his and Mac Mall’s collaboration album Da U.S. Open was released in 2005 and features some of his last recordings.
Mac Mall released Thizziana Stoned and the Temple of Shrooms on Thizz Entertainment in 2005, his first solo album in four years and his first album for the label. Mac Mall released the albums Mac to the Future in 2009 and The Rebellion Against All There Is in 2012. His latest album, Legal Business? was released exclusively digitally in 2015. Mac Mall released an autobiography, entitled My Opinion, in 2016.
