Bay Area artists come together to honor the artistic splendor of the popular 1970s rock band Steely Dan. That eclectic sound is reinterpreted through the lens of seasoned performers: Bill Hampton on Guitar, Waddell Bell on Bass/Vox, Ronnie Smith on Drums/Vox, and Raliegh Neal II on Keys/Vox, known as The Dans of Steel. As artists of color, the group brings a soulful and funky element to the original compositions and electrifies the nostalgic arrangements with skillful artistry. As veteran musicians themselves, each member of the DOS comes from an impressive musical career of collaborating with notable artists like Herbie Hancock, Maria Muldaur, Joe Lewis Walker, Tommy Castro, Goapele, Michael Franti and Spearhead, Guru’s Jazzamatazz, Omar, Walter Beasley, Stacey Lattisaw, Michelle Shocked, Anthony B., Ledisi, Rosie Gaines, George Howard, Pablo Moses and countless others. The Dans of Steel explores, in only true East Bay style, the prolific discography of Donald Fagen and Walter Becker while giving homage to the master session musicians that made the Steely Dan sound so memorable.
